ראש העיר ירושלים, משה ליאון החליט היום (א', 31.3) בשיתוף חברי מועצת העיר, כי יום העצמאות בירושלים יצוין השנה באופן מצומצם, תוך רגישות והתחשבות ברוח התקופה.

על פי ההחלטה, לא יוקמו במות בידור בכל רחבי העיר. בערב יום העצמאות יתקיים אירוע ״בירושלים שרים ביחד" בכיכר ספרא ובו שירי ארץ ישראל.

ביום העצמאות עצמו, מוסדות התרבות בעיר יהיו פתוחים לכלל הציבור ללא עלות.
אירוע "מוזיאון חי" יתקיים כמתוכנן בספרא ובשכונת מוסררה.

כמו כן, בפארקים השונים תתקיים פעילות לילדים ומופעי תזמורות רחוב ירושלמיות ברוח התקופה.

ביום העצמאות לא יתקיימו מופעי זיקוקים.

בימים הקרובים תגובש תכנית מפורטת, באשר לאירועים הצפויים ביום העצמאות בכלל רחבי העיר, בשיתוף המנהלים הקהילתיים.
